JM: Tell us a bit about your business.

AH: Just Be Happy are colorful and fun crochet patterns. I love to use simple stitches in different ways to create whimsical and trendy patterns.

JM: Why did you start your business?

AH: After a huge personal loss, I was madly crocheting to keep my hands and mind busy. I decided to open an online shop to sell the items I was producing and buy more yarn. At that point I started receiving a lot of inquiries about where I was finding the patterns for the items I sold and since I was creating them myself, I decided to start writing them.

JM: What is your favorite thing about being a yarnpreneur™?

AH: My favorite thing is the flexibility. I can crochet anywhere at any time. I can be part of my family’s life during the day and create at night, it’s really cool to be able to do something I love from the comfort of my home.

JM:  What is your least favorite thing about being a yarnpreneur™?

AH: Tax time! It’s painful to me to have to keep track of all my receipts, mileage… necessary, but not my favorite at all.

JM: What would you tell (or what advice would you give) someone that wants to be a yarnpreneur™?

AH: Find your style and make the things you love. Don’t try to make something just because everyone else is making, find your niche. If you create quality items, followers will find you.

JM: What do you wish you had done differently when you first started your business?

AH: Nothing! I think all the mistakes I made along the way taught me something and brought me to where I am now. Things were not always easy, I had moments that quitting crossed my mind, but I stuck here and it paid off.

JM: What’s next for you and your business?

AH: I have a book coming out in August, “Modern Tapestry” being published through F&W. I am really in love with tapestry crochet, the use of colors to create geometric designs is really appealing to me, the book is filled with colorful hats, gloves, socks, blankets and more.
