JM: Tell us a bit about your business.

J: I’m Julie, known to crocheters as ACCROchet. I design colourful and modern crochet patterns for a French & English speaking audience of other avid crocheters. I tend to use natural fibers, hand-dyed yarns, and the best tools I can afford. I’m a HUGE fan of designing socks & Tunisian crochet patterns.

JM: Why did you start your business?

J: There were so few beautiful crochet patterns available in French, that when I wrote my first set, people snatched them up and begged me to keep at it. And so I did =) Happily! And since I also speak English fluently, I decided my patterns would also be offered to an English speaking audience. The more, the merrier!

JM: What is your favorite thing about being a yarnpreneur™?

J: Playing with gorgeous hand-dyed yarns! Nothing like it! I feel so lucky to know many, many talented dyers, and that they allow me to play with their creations.

JM: What is your least favorite thing about being a yarnpreneur™?

J: Actually sitting down to write. I much prefer crocheting. I also have a lot of trouble with selling myself. I feel like an imposteur so often.

JM: What would you tell (or what advice would you give) someone that wants to be a yarnpreneur™?

J: DO IT! And trust that there are people out there who want EXACTLY what YOU (and only YOU) have to offer.

JM: What do you wish you had done differently when you first started your business?

J: Photography. My early patterns have boring and/or crappy photos.

JM: What’s next for you and your business?

J: I’ve recently launched a mentoring group for other French-speaking designers, to bring even more awesome patterns to that audience. I would really love to publish a book or two or three. I have ideas – so many ideas! I’m looking at the self-publishing options to be able to offer these to both my audiences – the English speakers and the French speakers =) And I hope to stay in the industry for a long long time!
