Hacking Your Habits and Creating a Morning Routine

Do you ever get to 2:00 in the afternoon and wonder where your mind has been all day? Do you ever feel like you spent a whole day doing busywork and not really accomplishing anything? Do you ever just feel like you need more focus throughout your workday?

Well then you may need a morning routine!

Morning routines have been touted by almost all of the successful entrepreneurs and business people as part of the secret to their success.

But why? Let’s dive into what a morning routine is and how you can create one for yourself!

We’re creatures of habit by nature. We get used to routine, and even if those routines aren’t helpful to us, they can be hard to change.

It has been said that our lives are simply a collection of habits. It’s been shown that habits are hard to break, but so very important to our day-to-day well-being.

If we’re so driven by habit, how do we use that to our advantage? Instead of fighting our current habits and feeling guilty when we feel like we can’t change, we can “hack” our habits and create the habits that can have a greater impact on our lives. Once you learn how to create a new habit, you can repeat that formula to see changes in all areas of your life!

Whenever someone brings up that they feel lost in the day-to-day, my first question is… do you have a morning routine?

Because a morning routine can mean the difference between being productive and being stuck. Or feeling like you’re growing and feeling like you’ve plateaued.

So how do you create your own morning routine? Here are a few guidelines:

  1. Start small.

Don’t jump into a million new habits each morning. That’s a sure way to get overwhelmed and wind up not doing any of them!

  1. What speaks to you?

What is that thing that you’ve been wanting to work on? What makes you happy? Is it a cup of tea, some meditation time, time to work on your business uninterrupted in the wee-hours of the morning? Start with a habit that really calls to you!

  1. Stick to it like glue.

Habits take many, many days to form. (It’s different for everyone, but a general benchmark is 66 days.) So that means you need to stick with it. Push yourself in the beginning and you’ll thank yourself later. That being said, if a routine element is really not working for you, allow yourself to rearrange and be flexible as necessary.

  1. Enjoy the process!

Forming a new routine can be a fun experience. It’s nice to watch new habits unfold and interact in your life. They can soon become a staple and a positive presence in your day.
